This site is intended as a method for friends to casually share and comment on the current music they like and are listening to. The term världsmusik means "world music" in Swedish. The term 'world music' was chosen to encourage any and all types of music to be shared. Swedish was chosen because this was the only translation of 'world music' available as a domain name. And it's classy.

Matisyahu "Miracle"

Well, I went to a Matisyahu concert last night. WOW. That dude is talented. I've never listened to much of his music, honestly. I heard punk rock, pop, hip hop, trance, psychedelic funk, and what seemed like religious ritual music all in one concert. No joke. It was insane. I knew he was a talented rapper, but he's got a wicked set of pipes on him too.

Anyway, this was one of my faves that he played at the concert. It's his new Hanukkah song. "Miracle"

Honestly the live version was much better than this is. I think they made it more radio friendly on the album or something... Enjoy.

Cheers,
Greg

"Spanish Sahara" by Foals

I found this song while watching The Misfits on Hulu (which by the way has the most kick ass soundtrack ever, I've found a ton of new stuff on there...).  I looked it up on Wikipedia and it turns out this song was huge in the UK in 2010, and is still seeing some popularity in 2011.  Here's what Wikipedia had to say about it:
"Spanish Sahara" peaked at number 148 on the UK Singles Chart.
The song was number one in the NME top 50 songs of the year 2010.[3] In February 2011, it won the award for 'Best Song' at the NME Awards.[4] In October 2011, NME eventually placed it at number 14 on its list "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years".[5] In January 2011, the song was voted Number 98 on the Triple J Hottest 100 for 2010.[6]
It's has a haunting but beautiful sound that builds and builds throughout the entire song.

"You Got to Go" - Above and Beyond featuring Zoë Johnston

Keep hearing this track on the sound system where I workout. Usually they only play top 40 stuff there, but I haven't heard it anywhere else, so I'm not sure what that's about.

There are a few remixes of it that you could check out too. I've never heard of Above and Beyond or Zoë Johnston, but this track is wicked catchy.

Enjoy.

Cheers,
Greg

"One And Only" by Adele

Do be frank, I've been growing quite sick of hearing Adele on the radio lately.  Not because I don't like her songs, but because I don't like listening to them on instant replay all day.  This song popped up on my Pandora station today and made me fall in love all over again.  Off of her breakthrough album '21', this song has a huge sound and really showcases the pipes this girl has.  Enjoy!

P.S. The sound quality on this youtube video may leave you wanting more... I'd suggest finding another source if you can (it appears this album is not on Spotify?)

"Gravity Rides Everything" by Modest Mouse

This one was released way back in 2000, but is still great.  Found this one in my MP3 library, didn't even realize I had it.  This is off of Modest Mouse's album 'The Moon & Antarctica'.  It's an easy listening feel good track, reminiscent in some ways of The Shins.

Have a listen:

NPR All Songs Considered - Electronic Edition

Guys/Gals,

Just wanted to draw everyone's attention to a pretty bad ass music blog.  If you're not listening to this podcast I think you should be.  The latest edition focuses on electronic music, which is pretty much all I'm listening to lately.  It's a great current look at what's going on in the electronic music world from all over the world.  I love podcasts like this because I'm usually too busy to find my own new music to listen to, but I like to stay up to date on what's new.  The link below has the full podcast, as well as links to each individual song.  If you listen to just one track, make it Burial x Massive Attack - "Four Walls".

Anyways, you can find the full All Songs Considered podcast on NPR.  Enjoy!

Tom Waits - Bad As Me

Tom Waits' 17th studio album (and first in seven years), Bad As Me, is coming out next week. 'Nuff said.

I'm a pretty huge Tom Waits fan, but I guess he's probably not everybody's cup of tea. His songs are all over the place, from slow ballad type songs to more experimental noisy songs, and they're usually more about atmosphere and style than complex melodies (for me, anyway). Also, his voice is very rough and has a lot of "character", the kind of character I think you get from drinking whiskey and smoking cigarettes for a couple decades.

The album is streaming at BadAsMe.com until Friday but you have to enter one of these codes:
20b-uogl5

mtb-3w4vb
which I have because I'm in the inner circle.

And here's two songs from it:
